The Liveable Cities Network

Shaping Resilient European Cities

The Liveable Cities Network

The Liveable Cities Network is a collaborative platform that brings together a broad coalition of cities, organisations, practitioners, researchers, artists, and communities, all united by a shared vision: to shape more resilient, liveable, and inclusive urban futures across Europe.

Rooted in the values of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) - sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion – and in the Charter for Designing Liveable Cities, the network provides a space for connection, experimentation, and mutual learning, where diverse partners can explore solutions to the complex challenges facing today’s cities.

The Liveable Cities Network has emerged from the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme funded project “Liveability” (2022-2025) but lives on and grows. It is now affiliated with the NEBHUB 2050 initiative that connects various partners and projects across Europe and welcomes members from cities from all parts of the EU.

What is the network about?

The Liveable Cities Network provides a space for cities to:

  • Facilitate exchange of good practices, tools, and methods in public-interest design and placemaking;
  • Promote cities in the Baltic Sea Region and beyond– especially smaller and medium-sized cities – as liveable and forward-thinking places;
  • Support local administrations in becoming learning, adaptive organisations that embrace civic innovation;
  • Develop joint projects, pilot initiatives, and cross-border cooperation opportunities.

Through quarterly online meetings, participating cities share experiences, discuss challenges, and strengthen collective capacity on topics ranging from governance and civic participation to circularity, creativity, resilience, and long-term urban transformation.

How to become a “Liveable City”

Member cities of the network participate in online training and peer exchange sessions, and they set their own objectives related to shaping urban environments that are people-centered, inclusive, and sustainable. As a reward for their commitment, cities receive and may display the “liveable city” label.

Join our “Liveability Talks”

The Liveability Talks complement the network by gathering visionary voices from urban design, policy, and civic innovation.

Since 2024, the Talks have created a space for dialogue and inspiration, showcasing ideas and practices that make cities more regenerative, inclusive, and resilient.

Originally part of the Liveability project, these Talks are now hosted by UrbCitizenPower (EU Interreg Europe 2024–2028).
